Cuesta Poloists Sweep Tournament Field with Six Wins on the Weekend

Cuesta Men's Water Polo won all six of their games at this weekend's Arena-Cuesta II Tournament to take the event's title.  Cuesta keeps methodically working their way through opponents as they chase the program's 42nd consecutive playoff berth- they have never missed.   Today the Cougars opened with a commanding victory over 2019 CCCAA State Semi-Finalist Sierra, 18-8, before taking down another 2019 playoff team in Ohlone, 18-6, and, finally, they capped the day against the current NorCal Region win leader Modesto, 21-10.  Cuesta won all six of their games this weekend by a combined score of 106-42 against a field that included three reigning playoff teams and a conference rival.  The Cougars' Western State Conference victory over Ventura on Friday has them alone in first place in the loop and chasing their 29th conference title.

Men's Water Polo is into its fifth decade as Cuesta College's winningest sport but is focused on earning a spot in the CCCAA State Final Four for the first time since 2007.   The Cougars head South next weekend for the Golden West Tournament in Garden Grove.  The tournament will run all day both Friday and Saturday and is the Cougars final non-conference event until the 2021 CCCAA Playoffs begin on November 11.  The Poloists currently own an 88.9 winning percentage and only 1990 (32-2/ 94.1), 1989 (33-3/ 91.7) and 1985 (29-3/90.6) have finished above .900 in program history.  The Cougars have six scheduled games left on the docket before the post-season.
