Women's Volleyball: Pirates beat San Jose City to split matches at MPC Classic

Sophomore Brooklynne Beavers slammed home 14 kills to lead the Porterville College Pirates to a 3-1 win over San Jose City College in their opening match at the Monterey Peninsula College Classic on Friday. Porterville couldn't keep the momentum going as they suffered a 3-0 loss to host MPC to close the tourney.

Porterville, now 2-3 overall, returns to action next Wednesday (Sep. 13) at 6 p.m. when the Pirates host West Hills College Coalinga in their home and Central Valley Conference opener.

Beavers turned in her best match of the season as she led all with 14 kills in PC's 25-20, 22-25, 25-23, 25-20 victory. As a team, the Pirates put together their finest match offensively and from a defensive standpoint. PC totaled 42 kills as well as 42 digs to go with 4 blocks.

Emerald Harris' 23 assists led the Pirates while Brooke Reilly added 16 assists and 8 kills. From the back line, Rylee Jones led with 15 digs and Ashlynn Miller had 12 digs.

Jasmine Torres also chipped in with 4 kills, a pair of blocks, and an ace.

Monterey Peninsula 3, Porterville 0
The Pirates couldn't replicate their outburst on offense in their second match and fell by scores of 25-15, 25-13, 25-10.

PC had just 20 kills in the contest with Reilly's 10 kills lead the Pirates. Harris led PC with 11 assists, while Miller contributed a team-best 9 digs and Jones had 8 kills to go with 2 aces.
