Tigers Maul Panthers In Home Opener

Reedley College opened action in the College of the Sequoias baseball tournament Thursday night with a 15-2 victory over the Hartnell College Panthers in Reedley.

The Tigers (2-2) scored all of their runs in the first four innings, exploding for six runs in both the third and fourth frames. Leadoff hitter Bryce Hernandez led the 17-hit attack with three singles and a double in six at-bats. Cooper Morrison started the third inning rally with a triple and finished with two hits. Luke Juarez, Kevin Page and Mitchell Crawford (two doubles) all finished with two hits for the winners.

Sophomore Evan Sagariballa allowed an unearned run in five innings to record the pitching victory. Four relievers were used by head coach Steve Pearce over the final four innings.

Reedley will face the other two opening day winners in the six-team, set schedule tournament as they host Golden West (a 10-9 winner over host College of the Sequoias) on Friday at 2 pm before a 1pm Saturday matchup with Bakersfield College, a 4-3 winner over Mission College of Santa Clara. The latter contest took only one hour and 57 minutes to complete.
