Women's Volleyball: Porterville picks up first win, splits matches at Alameda

New head coach Pete Rasmussen earned his first career victory at Porterville College as the Pirates split their matches at the College of Alameda Quad Tournament on Saturday. After an eight-hour drive from San Diego to the Bay Area Friday evening, PC opened the tourney with a 3-0 loss to DeAnza College, but bounced back with a 3-0 sweep of Contra Costa College.

Over the two matches, PC freshman setter Emerald Harris combined for 27 assists, 11 digs and 4 aces.

DeAnza 3, Porterville 0
DeAnza made quick work of the Pirates as Porterville fell by scores of 25-14, 25-15, and 25-11 in Saturday's opener. Harris had a good all-around match, posting 12 assists, 10 digs, 4 kills and an ace to lead the Pirates. Sophomore Brooklynne Beavers contributed 4 kills and 6 digs while sophomore Ashlynn Miller added 7 digs.

Porterville 3, Contra Costa 0
The Pirates battled for a hard-fought sweep, earning a 25-21, 25-20, 25-19 win over Contra Costa. Sophomore Brooke Reilly had her best match of the weekend as she tied for a match-high of 7 kills to go along with an impressive 6 aces in the contest. Harris had 15 assists and 3 aces while Miller (11 digs) and freshman Rylee Jones (10 digs) gave good efforts on defense.

Porterville, now 1-2 overall, returns to non-conference action on Friday (Sep. 1) when the Pirates travel to Monterey Peninsula College for a pair of matches. PC takes on San Jose City College at 1 p.m. followed by a 3 p.m. matchup against host MPC.
