That's a Wrap on the 2025 Beach Season
The Wolverines completed their season at Long Beach City College last weekend at the CCCAA State Pairs Championships. Sierra qualified two teams in the 32-team field and that field featured the best of the best in California. Pair Platt and Deter completed their season T-17th on the first day with a battle to break pool as almost every match went three sets. Black and Skinner qualified on the Sweet 16 along with only four other Northern California pairs. Their state run ended with a hard-fought battle with another north team and a final finish of T-9th out of over 200 pairs in the CCCAA.
The season culminated with the Wolverine Awards Night where beach volleyball celebrated Hannah Platt as the 2025 Sasha Brown Most Inspirational Award Winner. Hannah battled injury and personal loss all season and was an incredible leader for our team. Molly Fowler was also nominated in the category for her grit, work ethic, and selfless team leadership that helped inspire both our 2024 beach team to a Big 8 Championship as well as our indoor team's Fall 2024 run to the state championship.

The night also saw a final close to Coach Vera Nelson's time with our program. Coach Vera and Coach Whitnack were awarded the 2025 Bruce Hastie Award for Coach of the Year for the winning two Big 8 Championships in beach for 2024 and 2025 as well as a Big 8 Championship for indoor while having to navigate training off campus for two years in five different facilities. This award was so meaningful for the coaching pair as 2025 saw the loss of one of Sierra's former players, Jacy Dean, from the same type of cancer Coach Hastie passed from in 2023. This year's squads dedicated their 2024-2025 seasons to Dean, and she will forever be remembered for her sense of humor, her fight, and her incredible accomplishments with both beach and indoor programs.
