
Giants Earn No. 3 Seed, Multiple CVC Honors
College of the Sequoias softball earned the No. 3 seed in the California Community College Athletic Association (3C2A) Northern California Regional Playoffs and collected a number of Central Valley Conference (CVC) postseason honors. Sophomore Grace Chojnacki was named CVC Pitcher of the Year, sophomore Emilee Santos earned CVC Player of the Year, and six Giants were selected to the All Conference Teams.
Giants Set to Host Regional Playoffs
The College of the Sequoias softball team earned the No. 3 seed in the California Community College Athletic Association (3C2A) Northern California Regional Playoffs and will host Monterey Peninsula in the opening round, which starts on Friday, May 3rd. Monterey Peninsula finished fifth in the Coast Conference with a 17-17 record, 6-8 in conference play. Game 1 is scheduled for Friday at 2 p.m., followed by Game 2 on Saturday at 12 p.m. A third game, if necessary, would be played Saturday at 2 p.m. This marks the second straight year the Giants will host postseason play.
Admission prices for all postseason play are set by the state (3C2A): $12.00 for general admission and $8.00 for students with IDs, faculty, staff, senior citizens (age 60 and over), and children under 12.
Central Valley Conference Awards
So. Grace Chojnacki (Mission Oak HS) | Pitcher of the Year, First Team All-Conference
Chojnacki posted a 6-0 record with a 1.43 ERA, ranking second in the CVC, and tied for second in complete games (5). She also finished fifth in the conference with 25 strikeouts. At the plate, Chojnacki led the conference in batting average (.511) and ranked 13th in RBI (10).
So. Emilee Santos (Corcoran HS) | Player of the Year, First Team All-Conference
Santos hit .510, ranking third in the CVC, and posted a .528 on-base percentage to rank sixth in the conference. She was also fifth in stolen bases (6) and drove in eight runs.
So. Taylor Hastin (Tulare Union HS) | First Team All-Conference, Pitcher
Hastin led the CVC in strikeouts (55) and complete games (6), ranked second in wins (7), and posted the third-best ERA (1.96). Offensively, she ranked second in RBI (18) and tied for second in home runs (3).
So. Shelby Somavia (Redwood HS) | First Team All-Conference, Third Base
Somavia hit .368 during CVC play, ranking in the top 20 in batting average, and finished 13th in the conference with 10 RBI.
So. Madisyn Benedict (Hanford HS) | First Team All-Conference, Utility
Benedict hit .474, ranking sixth in the CVC in batting average, and drove in 13 runs to finish seventh in the conference in RBI.
So. Nayzeth Gonzalez (Hanford HS) | First Team All-Conference, Outfield
Gonzalez batted .438, ranking eighth in the CVC in batting average, and posted a .534 on-base percentage, fifth-best in the conference. She also ranked fifth in stolen bases (6) and added eight RBI.
So. Skye Gomez (Temescal Canyon HS) | Honorable Mention
Gomez hit .320 across nine conference games, adding five RBI and providing steady depth in the Giants' lineup.
So. Elaine Duran (Tulare Western HS) | Honorable Mention
Duran contributed five RBI, offering consistency both offensively and defensively.
