SWEEPING SENSATION FOR HAWKS
By Matt Schwab
The winning continues for the hard-charging Las Positas women's volleyball team. Ever since a tough loss to Diablo Valley, the Hawks have reeled off three straight victories.
On Sept. 5, Las Positas (3-4) swept visiting Redwoods 3-0. The scores were 25-8, 25-18, 25-23. This came after the Hawks swept host Columbia 3-0 on Sept. 4.
"The team had a strong passing night which allowed our offense to get into a great rhythm," LPC head coach Jamie Hadenfeldt said of the win over Redwoods.
The dynamic freshmen trio of Ainsley Wade (15 kills), Taylor Huerta (11 kills) and Chloe Owyang (7 kills) combined for 33 kills and made only five errors.
"Great attacking efficiency from them," Hadenfeldt said.
Freshman Camille Craighead led in serving with four aces. Three players had double-digit digs in the balanced team effort.
"The team had good energy and stayed competitive throughout," Hadenfeldt said. "We got down 7-2 early in set 3 but maintained composure and worked our way back into the match, finally leveling the score to 20-20. Taylor put the ball away with a great attack to finish the match, 25-23, and solidify the sweep."
The Hawks will return to action at home against Napa Valley on Wednesday, Sept. 18.
