Hoover Delivers Late, Lifts Hartnell Over Sac City 2–1 in Comeback Thriller
Sacramento, CA — Hartnell College stunned Sacramento City College with a seventh-inning rally on Friday afternoon, stealing a 2–1 road win behind a brilliant all-around performance from Charlee Hoover.
The victory pushes the Panthers to 23-14-1 on the season, while Sac City drops to 28-11.
Hoover Leads the Charge Hartnell's sophomore ace was electric in the circle, racking up 14 strikeouts in a complete-game effort while allowing just four hits and one walk. But it was her bat that made the biggest impact late—Hoover crushed an RBI double to tie the game in the seventh and then came around to score the eventual game-winner on a sacrifice fly by Malaya Carrillo.
Hoover finished the day 2-for-3 with a double, a run, and an RBI.
Sac City Strikes First Sacramento City jumped ahead early when Kayla Garber drove in Chloe Kimbrell with a first-inning single. Garber finished the day 2-for-2 with a walk and a stolen base. Despite early momentum, the Panthers were held scoreless the rest of the way by Hoover, who struck out at least one batter in every inning.
Late Heroics Steal the Show Hartnell entered the final frame trailing 1–0 before Kalea De Leon sparked the rally with a leadoff single. Hoover followed with a rope to left-center to tie it, and Carrillo's sacrifice fly brought her home for the go-ahead run. From there, Hoover slammed the door in the bottom of the seventh, striking out two to seal the win.
