WALNUT – The hosts are running the house as the Mt. San Antonio College Mounties have earned a spot in the finals of the 3C2A Baseball State Championships with a 9-3 win over West Valley College on Sunday at Mt. SAC's Mazmanian Field.
The Mounties (44-6) will take on the winner of tonight's Cypress-West Valley elimination game for an opportunity to earn their first state baseball championship since 1965.
Mt. SAC jumped out early on the Vikings (39-12) with seven runs over the first four innings and never looked back. The Mounties' "Big 3" of Brian Bradshaw, Landon White and Ty Thomas got the job done, going a combined 6-for-11, reaching base 10 times, scoring five times and driving in four runs. White led the way, going 3-for-4 with a run and two RBI.
Relief pitcher Joey Peralta played the role of "unsung hero" for Mt. SAC with 4-1/3 innings of solid bullpen work to pick up the win, holding the Vikings to one run on two hits with no walks and three strikeouts.
Tyler Stul and Diego Ortiz each went 1-for-4 with a run scored and two RBI for the Mounties, while Noah Rodriguez added two hits and a run scored.
