The West Valley women's water polo team made a case for a top NorCal playoff seed with a pair of impressive victories Saturday at the Coast/Big 8 Crossover Classic at Las Positas College. The Vikings (16-4) opened the tourney with a 9-6 win over defending state champion Sierra (13-3) and then swamped San Joaquin Delta (6-11) 13-3 in the late game. Against Sierra, WVC got four goals from team scoring leader Sierra Ceballos and two from Giovanna Valente Cardenuto. Raquel de Pinho came up big in the cage with eight saves against the potent Wolverines. Ceballos, Valente Cardenuto and Nadja Novakovic each found the back of the net four times against Delta, with de Pinho turning aside 13 Mustang shots. West Valley hosts neighborhood rival De Anza (0-3) Wednesday (10/23). The ball drops at 4:15pm.
