Short-handed Vikings Fall at Cañada to End 11-game Unbeaten Streak

WVC men's soccer 2018

The West Valley men's soccer team had their 11-game unbeaten streak against CCCAA teams snapped with a hard-fought 1-0 loss at Cañada Friday. The Vikings (10-2-1, 6-1-0 Coast) were playing without injured midfield mainstay Bo Antonissen and then lost forward Matthew Korpontinos to a red card at 68'. Cañada (7-4-2, 3-3-1) turned the man advantage into a 1-0 lead on a Jorge Lopez goal seven minutes later. A Colt red card at 84' evened the sides, but a furious Viking attack at the end of regulation and in stoppage time could not find the back of the net. The physical fixture saw six yellow and one red card handed out to Cañada and two yellows and a red go to WVC. West Valley hosts Highway 17 rival Cabrillo (2-7-4, 2-5-1) Tuesday (10/23) at 4:00pm.
