In what Las Positas coach Andy Cumbo dubbed "an exciting game for the fans," the Hawks dropped a wild 5-4 decision to Feather River.
Cumbo gave his team high marks in the character and camaraderie departments.
"The team showed a lot of heart, grit, and unity in the game and despite the end result, a lot of positive things came out of the experience," Cumbo said.
Sophomore midfielder Simon Fuentes (Monte Vista) and freshman midfielder Adrian Espinoza (Patterson) played strongly for the Hawks (2-1).
Saul Gutierrez (Tracy), who had a hat trick in a 4-0 win over Modesto on Aug. 31, led the Hawks again with two goals.
Dominic Giusto (De La Salle) scored the Hawks' first goal of the match on a Fuentes assist, cutting the deficit to 2-1 in the 35th minute. Espinoza and Gutierrez then scored in the 50th and 55th minutes to give the Hawks a 3-2 lead, but Feather River (2-1) reeled off three goals in a row and held on for the win.
