Rustlers Win Three at Ventura College Tournament

Huntington Beach, Calif. - Golden West women's water polo  (13-5, 1-2 OEC) wins three of four appearances at the Ventura College Tournament. 

10/6/2023 vs San Diego Mesa, 17-6

To open the weekend, the Rustlers battled the Olympians. Golden West came out the gates with a consistently high scoring offense. In each of the first three quarters, the Rustlers scored five goals. San Diego Mesa was held to six goals till the end as Golden West won, 17-6. 

Daniella Jiron and Bella Schulze both scored three goals which aided in extending the Rustler lead. Candice DeMayo scored two while Evelyn Teeter, Adrianna Murguia and Rebeka Macia found the net once. Lily Worley was accountable for six of the Rustlers 17 goals to help her team earn their first victory of the tournament. 

10/7/2023 vs Ventura, 12-11

Golden West persevered through a triple overtime matchup against Ventura in their third appearance. The back and forth action saw both sides going goal for goal in each quarter of play. The first quarter opened with a 2-2 tie until the Rustlers took a one goal lead into half, 6-5. Ventura managed to tie in the third quarter and the score would stay tied as it went into overtime. 

The home and visiting team scored one goal in the first quarter and neither would find the net in the second overtime quarter. Golden West endured and outlasted the Pirates as the visiting Rustlers scored one final goal in the third and final overtime quarter.  Lily Worley was first in goals for the winning team as she netted four. Bella Schulze, Ashley Hogan and Kira Posigian would all score two for the Rustlers. 

10/7/2023 vs Merced, 11-9

For their final appearance at the Ventura College Tournament, Golden West took on Merced. In the first frame, the Rustlers would shutout the Blue Devils and take a 3-0 lead. For the second quarter, Merced matched Golden West on the scoreboard with five goals from both sides. The two teams would match yet again in the third frame with two goals apiece. Though the Blue Devils outscored the Rustlers in the final eight minutes, the first quarter proved to be key as the Rustlers won, 12-11. 

Lily Worley contributed five goals to the Golden West offense which pushed her team to the one goal win. Daniella Jiron scored three times while Bella Schulze found the net twice. In net, Evelyn Teeter saved eleven shots from the Blue Devils 20 opportunities. With the victory over Merced, Golden West took three out of four games at the Ventura College Tournament to improve their record to 13-5. 

NEXT UP: The Rustlers will continue their conference schedule as the team hosts Orange Coast Wednesday, October 11th. The match will begin at 4pm.
