APTOS – Gavilan College is 1-0 to open Coast Conference South Division play thanks to a 5-4 win at Cabrillo College on Tuesday in the opening-game of a three-game series.
Shortstop Louis Zulaica went 3 for 5 with 3 RBI to lead the Rams at the plate. He smacked an RBI-double in the top of the seventh that tied the game up at 2-2 and added a crucial two-run triple in the ninth to extend the Rams' lead to 5-2.
Catcher Joshua Heard (2 for 5) also knocked in pair of runs with a RBI-double in the first and a run-scoring single in the seventh.
Joey Stover picked up the win in relief, tossing the final 4 innings while allowing 2 runs and 3 hits.
Gavilan improved to 6-15 overall with the victory. The two squads resume the series on Thursday (Mar. 14) in Gilroy at 2:30 p.m. with the finale back at Cabrillo on Saturday (Mar. 16) at 1 p.m.
