Saul Gutierrez and Dominic Giusto scored first-half goals but the No. 10 state-ranked Las Positas College men's soccer team couldn't hold the lead and ended with a 2-2 tie at Cañada College in both teams' Coast Conference opener on Tuesday.

Las Positas, now 6-1-2 overall and 0-0-1 in conference play, is still unbeaten over its last six games. With the tie, Cañada moved to 4-3-1 and 0-0-1.

Gutierrez opened the scoring in the 10^th minute with his team-leading 11^th goal of the season to give LPC the early 1-0 lead. Giusto made it 2-0 with his goal 10 minutes later in the 20^th.

The Hawks held that advantage through the second half until Cañada's Felipe Aguayo scored in the 60^th minute and Matthew Matias provided the equalizer in the 85^th.

Miguel Cortez played well in goal for the Hawks, posting a scoreless first half.

Las Positas will be tested when it returns to action next Tuesday (Oct. 5). The Hawks host state No. 1 Hartnell College in a 6:30 p.m. Coast Conference game.
