First-half goals from Matthew Korpontinos and Rodolfo Castro lifted the West Valley men's soccer team to a 2-1 win over Las Positas in a playoff-like atmosphere at Dick Schwendinger Field Friday afternoon. Korpontinos took a Castro feed into the box and snaked it past Hawk keeper Kyle Rudd in the 13th minute. Castro connected on his 17th goal of 2018, the 3rd highest total in the state, off a helper from Michael Robles at 42'. A sloppy second half saw Ali Amin score a 60th-minute tally for the Hawks (10-7-2, 7-4-0 Coast-North). With the win, the Vikings (13-2-2, 9-1-1 Coast-South) clinched at least a tie for the Coast-South title with two fixtures to go. WVC travels to Ohlone (4-12-1, 1-9-0 CN) Tuesday (11/6) and then wraps up the regular season Friday (11/9) with an important home match against Hartnell (11-2-3, 7-1-3 CN). Kickoff Friday is 12:30pm.
